Online Surveys

Over the course of three years, CUREE has developed a series of staff and pupil surveys for the Building the Evidence Base project. In the third year, over 8,000 students from across the country were included in the pupil survey. These surveys have been instrumental in looking at the ways in which schools are adapting to the new secondary curriculum. The surveys have engaged learners from Year 4 to Year 13 in giving feedback on:

  • how they feel about their learning,
  • what is helping them most,
  • what blocks their development,
  • whether group work or Assessment for learning is being used widely and effectively,
  • what levels of challenge learners feel
  • and many more issues

The smiley faces and web delivery of the surveys have made them engaging, and the responses have been collated at various levels of granularity.

We have since been asked by some of the schools who participated to run the survey for their school/cluster. We have been able to do this for as little as £200!

Survey data can be useful for:

  • Gathering snapshots of pupil voice
  • Measuring changes over time
  • Considering the effectiveness of projects and interventions
  • Gathering feedback from parents, staff and other stakeholders
