Closing the Gap: Test and Learn UPDATE

Note: the lead responsibility for taking the project forward rests with CfBT. The information below is provided for general interest and may not be accurate or up-to-date. For authoritative information on the project in detail contract the National College or CfBT

First Year Results

Five of the seven interventions had a distinct and 'complete' cycle in the first year. The post tests (literacy or numeracy) were carried out in June/July and the National College (assisted by DfE Analytical Services) are analysing the results. A preliminary view of these is expected to be available in September.

Leadership of Professional Development and Learning

"Over the next five years implementing the curriculum, assessment and qualification reforms will present significant challenges to teaching and learning. Schools will need to:

  • develop teacher capability to deliver reformed GCSEs and A levels, including a focus on preparing pupils
  • for the new style of examinations
  • develop teachers’ ability to undertake assessment that evidences pupil progress in learning
  • build capacity in middle and senior leadership related to curriculum design and development"

So says the Guidance Paper recently published by the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) - with CUREE and TDT – setting out why its members should be as aspirational about the development of their professional colleagues as they already are for their students

CUREE moves mountains (and its offices)

UPDATE 2 - OK we're in and everything (well, nearly everything is working). Might take us a while to find the cups and the files and we've still got some unpacking to do. But we are open for business as usual. Come up and see us sometime

UPDATE - We have successfully shifted ourselves and our stuff into our new offices on the (much more healthy for those with the bottle) 8th floor of Eaton House. This is only a few meters from our old gaff so just as convenient for the railway station and inconvenient for parking.

All the computing kit has been moved over and the key bits (e.g. routers and and servers) are back in action so digital communication is restored. Not everyone's computer has been set up yet but this should all be done by tomorrow morning.

Our landlines are still off as our new wizzbang digital system is being initialised in the morning but that too should be working by lunchtime.

Finding the Golden Thread - accommodating creativity and innnovation in the curriculum

Philippa Cordingley offers six core principles for crafting a creative curriculum to provide an agenda for action you can take to embed creativity in all subject areas in your own school, using case examples throughout to show how schools have used this as a framework for innovation
