An investigation into the organisational culture of independent schools'
Aim: The aims of this study were threefold:
To investigate the rationale behind certain management practices adopted by school leaders in independent schools;
To assess how effectively these values are communicated to staff; and
To examine how widely they are accepted.
Can observation improve PE teaching
Aim: To see whether an increased awareness of observational strategies enhances effective teaching of physical education at Key Stage 2.
Engaging with each other: how interactions between teachers inform professional practice
Aim: The main aim of the project was to evaluate the contribution of between-teacher interactions in the workplace to the development of teachers craft knowledge. In so doing it sought to judge the value of such interactions in relation to other learning opportunities, such as engagement with research.
Teacher motivation in an international online collaborative learning community
Aim: The study set out to create a long term online action research activity involving collaboration between European teachers. We created a European project to look at the issue of Global Warming. We decided to monitor butterflies as indicators of climate change. This required a long term commitment to gain maximum value from the data collected. Hence teacher motivation was important. It was hoped from this to create a motivational checklist for teachers to help them when setting up online action research communities in the future.
Accident or design: To what extent do teachers plan and own their professional learning?
Aim: To examine the extent to which teachers working in special schools have ownership of and are able to plan their professional learning.
