If you want immediate, real life footage of teachers experimenting with research based strategies then look no further than Teachers TV. From Monday March 22nd, www.teachers.tv will be hosting “Proven to Work”, a series of ten short films. Each will showcase teachers experimenting with and embedding approaches that they chose on the basis of research. For two years CUREE staff and associates been delighted to play a part in supporting the development of the school-led school improvement system in the West Midlands. That particular role - Teaching and Leadership Adviser (TLA) - comes to an end this month as the sponsor, National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), is closing down the service. Identifying what works and why

The general perception among politicians, policy makers and the public at large is that head teachers can make a difference to the progress their students make at school. After all it is often head teachers who pay the ultimate price when schools are deemed to be failing. Whether such a view of the key role of leadership in schools is justified by the evidence is something the authors of this study set out to establish.
